During the pandemic, we bought a refurbished sewing machine. Though we never made the face masks we'd planned, we've since taken classes to start learning how to use the thing and how to sew by hand. We’re having fun fixing our gear. Or trying to.
I figure if resources or jobs become harder to get, being able to repair essential stuff could come in handy. And if instead, AI brings abundance and makes employment unnecessary, then these manual skills will still offer some fulfillment.
